Membership Benefits

You must own either a CLAA registered llama or alpaca to become a member of the Canadian Llama and Alpaca Association.

Membership with the CLAA includes membership with the other two divisions of the Association - Alpaca Canada or Llama Canada - depending on the breed you own.

If you own both registered alpacas and llamas you have the option of belonging to either Alpaca Canada, Llama Canada or both. If you only want membership with one division you will still receive member registry discounts for both breeds; however you will only be eligible to vote on registry matters pertaining to the breed division you have chosen. For example if you own alpacas and llamas and choose only to be a member of Llama Canada you would only be eligible to vote on llama registry matters.

CLAA memberships are due annually on December 31st of each year. New memberships purchased throughout the year are pro-rated after July 1st. Renewals are not pro-rated.

Become involved with the future development of the registry

As the only organization authorized to register alpacas in Canada perhaps the most important aspect of CLAA membership is the opportunity to partake and vote on important registry matters. In 2007 we begin implementation of a Genetics Evaluation Program - an exciting new step in continuing the development of the Canadian herd.

Network and stay abreast of all the industry news

Our administrative newsletter, "The Bulletin" is mailed quarterly to every member of the CLAA and serves to keep us all informed on the activities of the Association, regional organizations and other industry related organizations. You will also receive the Alpaca Canada or Llama Canada newsletters.

Our herd book is available on-line with no extra fees or charges for members wanting to research bloodlines and gather breeding or breeder information.

Annual conferences are held at varying locations across Canada in conjunction with our Annual General Meeting. It is usually a two or three day event giving members access to current information with guest speakers, workshops and socializing.

Our website is kept current with registry information, forms and a member's section where notices and current business are posted as well as copies of "The Bulletin".

Take advantage of the discounts provided to members

Membership ensures discounts on all registry fees such as registration certificates, transfers of ownership and herd name registration.

Enjoy the experience of dealing with highly trained and experienced registry staff

The CLAA employs the services of the renowned Canadian Livestock Records Corporation (CLRC) to maintain our registry database and serve our members with their registry transactions. CLRC prides itself on customer service and accuracy.
